For as long as can be remembered, designers from Paris, New York, Milan and other glamorous and foreign nations have dominated the fashion industry and left everyone from celebrities to the average Joe clamouring to wear the latest items.
Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and Christian Dior are just a few of the names that have taken both menswear and women’s wear to a whole new level. Despite this evident foreign power; we Brits have also injected some very impressive quality, style and breakthrough design into the fashion industry however as of late many are beginning to wonder about the scar that is so incredibly damaging the face of British design.
Ask anyone to name a few British designers who have not only shaken up the industry but altered the perception of modern Britain as a place where forward thinking fashion exists and you will no doubt hear the names Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith and L’Wren Scott to name but a few. Each one of these designers has amassed the respect of the industry and a league of fans from across the world however a dark cloud hangs.
